Our FALL LEARNING SERIES is designed to provide integral skills training in a shorter format to accommodate the busy fall schedules of contactors. All courses are held via video conferencing in the local Construction Association boardrooms in the following locations:

WINTER 2012 TRAINING PROGRAMS

 

Our WINTER TRAINING PROGRAMS offer members and their employees the opportunity to take more intensive courses during the winter months when the work load is typically somewhat lighter. Programs are up to 5 days in length and provide participants with essential job skills along with the chance to network with and learn from peers. All courses are held via video conferencing in the local Construction Association boardrooms in the following locations:

CHANGE ORDER MANAGEMENT (COM)   

Gold Seal Points - None

Change will occur on every construction project. These changes can be small (clarification of drawings and specifications) or large, dramatically affecting the scope of the project. The Owner, Architect/Engineer and Contractor must all be aware of the change process as laid out in the contract documents and adhere to the process for the project to be a success. This module covers formal and informal change processes.

Minimum Enrollment: 10 participants

Instructor Brian Klashinsky has spent most of his professional life in the construction industry, including several years as a Project Manager with a medium-sized Saskatchewan based general contractor. He is the current Facilities Manager for the City of Prince Albert.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT FUNDAMENTALS (PMF)

This course is designed to provide knowledge and skills necessary to successfully understand the framework of project management. Project Management is a formalized, structured approach that is integral to how an organization functions. Projects have become increasingly complex and in order to meet objectives successfully, project processes have become critical to project execution. This course covers both knowledge and practical tools and relates everything to the understanding of foundational processes, systems and methodologies specific to the construction industry.

DEALING WITH DIFFICULT EMPLOYEES (DWDE)

Working in constuction can be challenging, especially when difficult employees threaten team morale and productivity. This course will provide proven hands-on tips on how to deal with those employees and turn you worksite or office into a co-operative, enjoyable place to work.

MOTIVATING THE UNMOTIVATED EMPLOYEE (MTUE)

Supervisors of today's workforce face a special challenge: How do you motivate employees that don't respond to traditional forms of reward such as money and promotion? In this course, you will find out how our younger generation is different from the older gneration in how they respond to different forms of motivation. SUPERVISOR TRAINING PROGRAM (STP)

Designed for foremen or other supervisory staff in the construction industry, the Supervisor Training Program teaches valuable skills such as time management, communication skills and how to maintain productivity. The general supervisory principles acquired here can be appllied in any setting where one is overseeing or directing the activity of others. This course is an excellent choice for new supervisors or lead hands, and those employees that are interested in becoming supervisors.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGEMENT PROFESSIONAL (CPMP)

Advance project efficiencies and accuracy in your organization by enhancing project management skills, tools and techniques. The course covers project management basics and advanced topics at a master's certificate level. ADVANCED SUPERVISOR TRAINING PROGRAM (ASTP)

This course is a follow-up to the Supervisor Training Program. It offers further study into human resource management with a focus on developing strong interpersonal skills. Completion of the Supervisor Training Program is recommended, but not a pre-requisite to attend this course. Modules of study include interviewing/hiring, decision making, conflict management, report writing, leadership, motivation, team building, drug/alcohol awareness, labour laws. This is an excellent course for supervisors that want to enhance their people skills to get the most out of their crews.

CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT LAW (CCL)

This course is designed to teach and familiarize owners, managers supervisors and project managers with construction contracts and contract law, liabilities and responsibilities both in the office and the field, compiling and submitting proper extras and claims, and ways and means for leaders to avoid conflict with contracts, owners, trades, and labour. Course materials include a 200 page manual summarizing course and documents used in the industry.

Dates: March 29, 30 - 2012

Minimum Enrollment: 10 participants

Instructor: Don White is the Director of Conflict and Decision Management Centre. He is an expert in arbitration, mediation, and dispute resolution for construction related disputes as well as a facilitator of partnering and project alignment workshops, dispute resolution techniques for companies, associations, and construction projects/contracts. This course is offered in conjunction with the Canadian Construction Institute.

CANCELLATION POLICY

 

NEW CANCELLATION POLICY
1. If notice of cancellation is received 2 or more weeks prior to start of the course, full reimbursement of fees will be issued.
2. If notice of cancellation is received less than 2 weeks prior to the start of the course, the registrant will be required to pay one half of the course fees.
3. Notice of cancellation must be provided in writing
4. Cancellation of the course by Merit due to low enrollment or other such circumstances will result in all fees being returned to registrants.
